SPECIFIC DETAILS

Administrative Assistant/Secretarial Help/ Marketing support

The museum urgently needs a secretary able to compose materials about the museum's projects and
activities, business letters, phone contacts and follow ups, etc. Help collect and compile addresses for a large
regular mail and e-mail mailing list and send out letters to this list. This work can be done long-distance, and,
after 10-20 hours volunteer work and training it can become a PT paid position (10-20 hrs/week). Promote
our current exhibit and the program "Millennium III Together" locally, in the U.S. and in direct connection with
Romania (Romanian language is not a must). Sales over the Internet, in festivals and outreaching events,
some cleaning help with exhibits.

Computer Help

Help popularize our web site on the Internet - adding links and registering it with search engines.

The museum web site would greatly benefit from a reorganization and aesthetic improvement, and a
permanent web master. We need to add a forum on it, to take surveys or gather signatures for petitions (for
visas for artists, writers, business people; to "lobby" the officials and granting organizations, etc.)

Public Relations and Writing

Help write press releases, articles and feature stories about the museum and various aspects related to its
activities, successes and problems. Also on various topics related to the Romanian diaspora and its
relationship with Romania. Collaborative work in U.S. and Romania.

Help write letters of support, fund-raising, appeals to the Romanian media in the U.S., to the Romanian
community, especially to those who have a good salary, to Romanian officials, to people of culture, and in
support of the program INVITATION TO MILLENNIUM III TOGETHER.

We need two or three specialists and assistants for grant writing and to help develop a newsletter.

Humanistic / Historical Research

Work on files and archives of documentation about the Romanian-American communities and their issues,
including at the Romanian Cultural Center in N.Y. and the Heritage Center at Vatra, Michigan.

Collect stories, interviews, surveys, and write articles on the web site and in print about: sociology,
social/political studies/government, history of immigration, social and cultural studies, analysis of
contemporary issues relevant to the Romanian-Americans and in relationship with Romania, coverage of
relevant experiences, "oral stories", who's who, etc.

Event Planning, Organizatorial Participation and Popularization of the museum and its programs

Help develop a long range and short range plans, expand the museum board of directors, and establish
special committees (cultural exhibits and programs, collection maintenance and documentation, support for
the artisans, education/studies/media, civic/politic/economic promotion.)

Organizing and publicize four exhibits a year, four mini travel exhibits, two picnics, round tables, lectures, and
a one day conference in Princeton and/or Philadelphia; participation in other organizations events.

We need liaison representatives to the Romanian communities in at least ten states, to Romania, and to
American cultural and educational institutions, including staying updated on outside projects the museum
could join, or grants we could apply for.

FOR VOLUNTEERS: HOW TO HELP

Special projects
: A MEDIA AND NEWSLETTER PROJECT , TO ORGANIZE A CO-OP OF ROMANIAN
COMPANIES THAT CAN REPRESENT THEMSELVES AT OUR LOCATION, TO BUILD ALLIANCES AMONG
ROMANIANS FOR "MILLENNIUM III TOGETHER"

  • cooperation: The Romanian Museum and Romanian-American League will support, participate, and
help the Network of Romanian Student Associations in the U.S. and the Romanian Business
Professional Association to expand their functions nationally. The student groups in turn can use the
network of the Romanian-American League and continue its bridge programs for culture and economy,
perhaps adding a focus on education and student exchanges. They also can participate in studies or
develop projects and studies, surveys, writing, media/filming, etc. Rodica Perciali can speak, give
lectures, organize round tables, and, certainly exhibits, as she has been doing for 18 yrs.
  • sales and fundraising: student groups can organize exhibits, either purely cultural or with sales of
arts and crafts provided by the museum. There are arts and crafts already available in Chicago, as
well as our main location here in Philadelphia. This could help the student groups with their own
fundraising while participating in our program to promote Romanian artisans. Participation in local
American or ethnic festivals can be organized by any student groups at their location.
  • establishing a group of Young Friends of the Museum, to organize special events in NY at our
locations in Princeton and Philadelphia, including a monthly "cultural dialogue" program , dinners and
dance parties, maintaining and developing new contacts and membership, including in Romania,
serving on the board, developing projects for which to do grant writing, etc.
  • grants for project development: the museum's Gallery could be an art management/ marketing
incubator and the Romanian-American League a technical support network for experience in
international trade. (Two grants of $1000 and two of $500 & other types of financial assistance
available based on a competitive process.)
